What is interesting is that Millat is the one who tried his best to be a good muslim like his father wanted, and Magid was the disappointment. Millat stays with his family and struggles with maintaining his Muslim faith and fighting the temptations of white girls and gangster movies. While gone he only loses his muslim faith and becomes involved in Marcus Chalfen’s FutureMouse project. Magid is sent away to Bengali in order to retain his South Asian heritage, he is chosen by his father Samad to go because he believes that Magid is the better son. Smith uses these twin boys in order to show the readers that there really is no “British” identity in Britain. This creates hybrid identities in both Magid and Millat, although they both end up on different ends of the hybrid identity spectrum. But they grow up in a South Asian home, in a British community. Magid and Millat are identical twins and both of their parents are from Bengali, not actually making them hybrid sons of mixed race. This hybridity shows itself through the characters Magid and Millat. White Teeth addresses different ideas of British hybridity.
